Fire Danger Ratings

Harris County Emergency Services District No. 16 believes strongly in ensuring our community is educated on how to reduce the risk of wildfires. Below, you can see the various Fire Danger ratings and a brief explanation of what each level means. You can find the current fire danger rating by clicking here.

Extreme

When the Danger rating is EXTREME, fires of all types start quickly and burn intensely.

Very High

When the Danger rating is VERY HIGH, fires can start easily from any cause.

High

When the Danger rating is HIGH, fires can start easily from ignition of small fuels such as grass, leaves, and needles.

Moderate

When the Danger rating is MODERATE, accidental causes can start fire, but number of fires is fairly low.

Low

When the Danger rating is LOW, fuels do not ignite easily unless from an intense heat source.
